This series of collages were made from reproductions of works of Western classical painting, dating between the seventeenth and the nineteenth centuries, collected in auction catalogues, such as Sotheby's or Dorotheum, and later reworked with tears, holes and white corrective paint.
The reproductions of the paintings are mostly portraits, the faces of the original figures being altered by the overlapping of African, Asian or South American masks, merging historical and cultural references while subverting the classical canons of depiction of the otherness in Western arts. Thus establishing an evident questioning about the concepts of subjugation, instrumentalization, cultural fields and powers and raising the notions of exoticism and interculturality.
