«Zoetrope» explores the origins of animation by referring to the eponymous invention, the ancestor of cinema. The film describes a world where 3D digital characters, where both photographed and filmed animals coexist. The horse, the main character, whose gallop is modelled on the chronophotographs of Étienne-Jules Marey, travels through this environment composed of heterogeneous images, photographs of faceless humans, Internet scraps, sequences shot in the Pyrenees mountains (France). This virtual horse, which has the voice of a little girl, philosophizes about the status of animals. He talks about them in the third person. He seems to think of himself as human, while his Basque counterparts, the Pottoks, graze peacefully.

To lose myself in space, without fear
