‘I say eu te amo and never I love you.’ In defense of Brazil, the samba ‘They said I came back Americanized’ (1940) was made especially for Carmen Miranda after her stay in the US, in response to accusations that she had lost her Brazilianness and had surrendered to American culture. The exercise proposed here seeks to reflect on some of the standard images and references of Brazil, making them live with other discourses and languages.
