Rui Chafes was born in Lisbon (1966), where he currently lives. Between 1984 and 1989 he studied Sculpture at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Lisbon and from 1990 to 1992 at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf with Gerhard Merz. During this period, he translated Novalis' Fragments from German into Portuguese. The text was published by Assírio & Alvim in 1992. Since the mid-1980s, he has developed his work exclusively in iron or steel. He has exhibited in Portugal and abroad, namely at the Venice Biennale (1995 and 2013), and at the São Paulo Biennale in 2004. His work has been shown in several museums and institutions, mainly in Europe but also in Brazil, Japan and South Korea, having also held exhibitions in public spaces, natural or urban, such as Sintra, Matera or Bamberg. He was awarded with the Robert-Jacobsen Sculpture Prize (Germany 2004), the Pessoa Prize (Portugal 2015) and most recently, the AICA Prize (Portugal 2022).
Pedro Falcão was born in Caldas da Rainha in 1971. Between 1991 and 1995 he studied Graphic Arts at Escola Superior de Tecnologia of Tomar and Fine Arts at Escola Superior de Arte e Design in Caldas da Rainha. By the end of 1995 he moved to Lisbon and worked for ten years in the graphic design studio Secretonix of Mário Feliciano. In 2006 he founded his own studio Atelier Pedro Falcão in Lisbon and works for cultural institutions, artists and architects. In various graphic areas, he has developed works related to corporate identity, editorial design, posters, signage of buildings and exhibitions, becoming a specialist in book design. He taught Editorial Design in the Graphic Design and Multimedia course at Restart school in Lisbon between 2006 and 2015. Recently he designed the graphic identity for the Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology - Maat, did the graphic communication of the Portuguese Official Representation at the 57th International Art Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia and designed the book «Vizinhança - Where Álvaro meets Aldo», Álvaro Siza Vieira's exhibition at Garagem Sul / CCB.
